Capital Markets Union
Danny Busch
Chapter 15 in Research Handbook on EU Economic Law, 2019, pp 434-476 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Chapter 15 examines the ambitious but also fragmented and partially idealistic group of initiatives commonly known under the expression Capital Markets Union. The author examines the latest political trends in Europe and the Brexit. Then the chapter further continues by discussing the relationship between the European Banking Union and the Capital Markets Union. The author then discusses the specific regulations of the CMU. The question, however, remains if the CMU is a realistic plan without Europe’s financial centre taking part after Brexit. The chapter concludes that it is time for change which will require the European leaders to work together.
