A changing world of innovation
.
Chapter 9 in The Robot Revolution, 2019, pp 133-143 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter returns to the issue of innovation in light of the discussion on robots. We present a model of innovation which includes integrative research which combines together the research of different scientific disciplines. There is also secondary research which examines the impact, direct and indirect, anticipated and unanticipated of innovation on society and the economy. We also give greater weight to wellbeing and culture than is often the case. We also examine the changing role of firms, governments and universities. Universities in particular are being transformed into what is in many cases the research arms of multinationals. This chapter also reviews the literature on people’s attitudes to robots in several contexts, including in given a critical role in securing economic progress.
