 Conclusion: building a culture of justice in the energy transition. Chapter 8 in Energy Cultures, 2020, pp 145-159 from Edward Elgar Publishing Abstract: This book provides a more in-depth discussion of power relations within our physical and social worlds. Energy cultures provide a unique avenue to understand the relational power of energy. The general task of energy culture is to provide an efficient, sustainable, and affordable energy system to citizens of each country. The energy system is embedded with an ethical demand in the provision of energy services. The clash between a particular or universal framing of energy justice exposes the power relations both sustaining and challenging an energy culture. Within the energy system are embedded the physical and social energy systems. There are two ways these cultures are represented: First, there is an explicit representation on the landscape, technologies and extends to how we cook and heat. Second, there is an implicit energy culture, encompassing the values, norms and regulations that sustain particular energy practices in social and state institutions.
