Secondary economic corridors, dry ports and seaport gateways

Abstract:
Chapter 4 examines China’s three secondary economic corridors linking South and Southeast Asia that supplement Eurasia’s landbridges by linking dry ports such as Kashgar and Kunming in China with transnational seaport gateways: the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC}; the China-Indochina Peninsula Economic Corridor (CIPEC); and the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor (BCIMEC). Supportive geologistics projects within the three corridors include analyses of Pakistan’s Port Gwadar, Malaysia’s East Coast Railway Link (ECRL) and Myanmar’s Kyaukpyu. India has reacted to these corridors in different ways by developing Port Chabahar, the Trilateral Highway and the Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal (BBIN) grouping to suggest the country has its own ‘vision and actions’ programme.
