Chapter 9 in China’s Global Vision and Actions, 2020, pp 153-167 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Chapter 9 assesses progress on China’s Belt and Road Initiative between 2013 and 2018 based on appraisals by Beijing, Washington and other agencies. Then it examines the effect of Beijing’s geologistics policy upon China itself reflected in the ranking of 19 city clusters. Looking ahead to the People’s Republic of China’s anniversary in 2049 the rise of India and possibly Indonesia will have to be accommodated together with the United States. Finally, a comparison is made between the British imperial model and those gauging the degree to which Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative is unique - a discussion contrasting the former’s telegraph network and Huawei’s ownership of undersea fibre-optic communications networks.
