Abstract: This chapter establishes an analysis of the Brazilian financial system through the identification of the main cities that behave like financial centres. Thus far, scholars conducted studies of financial centres either following a historical or a theoretical approach. Combining these two approaches to study of the Brazilian case, the chapter carries out a wide-ranging bibliographical review of the main scholars of the subject, as well as a systematic documental research in official databases on the following subjects: stock exchanges, banking system and business/corporate services. The results show the ascendancy of the city of São Paulo and the dispute over lesser functions by the cities of Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro in the national urban network.
