Italian banks and business services as knowledge pipelines for SMEs: examples from Central and Eastern Europe
Christian Sellar
Chapter 6 in Geofinance between Political and Financial Geographies, 2019, pp 91-119 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
There are few analyses available on the role of finance and business consultancies in post-socialist economic geographies and even fewer on the internationalization of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Both of these issues are addressed in this chapter which focuses on Italian banks and business services with relationships to SME outsourcing practices in Central and Eastern Europe. The basic premise of this chapter is that there is a nexus between the internationalization of banks, services and SMEs when analysed within the framework of the Uppsala internationalization process model. Specifically, banks and services allow the mobilization of resources forming knowledge pipelines between Italian firms and Central and Eastern European regional economies.
