Chapter 1 in A Modern Guide to Austrian Economics, 2022, pp 6-16 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Praxeology, the purportedly a priori foundation of economic science endorsed by Ludwig von Mises and many (though not all) other Austrian economists, is often attacked for being unduly rationalistic and dogmatic; but many such criticisms are based on a misunderstanding of what is actually being claimed for praxeology. This chapter attempts to sort out what the praxeological approach entails and how it holds up to common criticisms, before sketching some future lines of needed research in the praxeological project.
