Are wage policies desirable and feasible? European experiences

Jesus Ferreiro ()

Chapter 12 in A Modern Guide to State Intervention, 2019, pp 240-252 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Ferreiro analyses the role played by wages in the Post Keynesian approach, and discusses conditions that favoured the implementation of wage policies in Europe during the 1990s. Considering the decline of wage policies after the creation of the Economic and Monetary Union, the author focuses on the potential role to be played by these policies in the current economic situation. Along with an increase in aggregate demand, a full-employment agenda is necessary.
