.

Chapter 4 in Combating Money Laundering in Africa, 2020, pp 51-80 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This chapter considers the work of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and the development and impact of the FATF Recommendations with particular reference to PEPs. It explores the implementation of the FATF Recommendations in African countries focusing on the role and effectiveness of the four FATF-style African regional bodies and the operation of the mutual evaluation process (MEP). It examines money laundering typologies in Africa and then provides a series of African country studies that explore the practical impact of the MEP process on combating money laundering.
