Abstract:
In this paper we review the literature on peer effects in crime, focusing both on reduced-form and experimental approaches. We find that peer effects in crime exist and are the strongest among peer groups of similar age, gender and socioeconomic background. We define several fruitful areas for future research. This review can be a useful tool for institutional designers that aim at exploiting peer effects to deter crime.
