Chapter 12 in A Research Agenda for Social Innovation, 2021, pp 211-228 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
As a social phenomenon collaborative spaces for social innovation have gained importance at least throughout the last two decades. This chapter investigates the variety of scholarly contributions in the field and tries to grasp some commonalities when talking about impact labs, social innovation labs, public sector labs and GovLabs as well as centres for social innovation. Some key characteristics of collaborative spaces for social innovation are discussed along the analytical dimensions of organisation, process, space and network. Furthermore, the chapter discusses the likely future importance of innovation labs for social innovation, for instance in innovation systems and as an instrument of collaborative and transformative governance.
