Chapter 8 in Handbook on the Water-Energy-Food Nexus, 2022, pp 132-148 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Climate services are co-produced actions between scientists and stakeholders that are delivered through customized information and based on the needs of end-users. The chapter is aimed to clarify how decision making across the water, energy and food sectors could be improved by using climate services. In doing so, knowledge of the water-energy-land nexus could evolve under climate change, make the trade-offs explicit and seek for synergies. Such knowledge could improve decision-making and societal resilience at large. Integrated modelling of the water-energy-land nexus is an important tool for comprehensive assessments of these resources and achieving the Agenda 2030 targets in an integrated manner. This approach will provide substantial knowledge to avoid maladaptation regarding unforeseen trade-offs. The adoption of a nexus approach in the concept of climate services will potentially offer multiple opportunities for smart resource management under climate change.
