Planning and programming an agent-based model

.

Chapter 4 in How Do I Develop an Agent-Based Model?, 2022, pp 72-110 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This chapter reviews the nine steps that a modeller may consider when planning an ABM: 1. Origination (``I got an idea!''), 2. Theory, 3. Parametrisation, 4. Mechanisms, 5. The model, 6. Calibration, 7. Perform the (full) simulation, 8. Data analysis, 9. Reporting. The chapter then guides the reader through the making of a simple BMOR model in NetLogo to showcase the effectiveness, practicality, and insights that ABM modelling offers. A simple ABM of stakeholder engagement is then set in order to be tested by means of computational experiments. A few hints on how to analyse the data are also provided.
