Chapter 10 in Handbook on Public Policy and Food Security, 2024, pp 101-109 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Ensuring good health and promoting well-being at all stages of the life cycle is essential to sustainable development. While over the years significant progress has been made to address persistent global health issues, eradicate a wide range of diseases, and promote a healthy lifestyle, challenges remain. This chapter presents a comprehensive framework for understanding key determinants of optimal health and well-being. It highlights important concepts and indicators to evaluate the status of health and well-being. The chapter also reflects on the progress made over the years, existing challenges, and the way forward, to create a sustainable and equitable health system.
