Chapter 15 in Handbook on Public Policy and Food Security, 2024, pp 153-164 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter follows on from chapter 14, which discusses the interactions between gender inequality and food insecurity. Chapter 15 explores the gender gap and contemporary empirical methods used to measure and assess the impact of gender inequality on food security and nutrition. Several methods are used to measure and analyse the impact of gender inequality on food security and nutrition. Still, none of them covers all the components of food security. Instead, they concentrate on agency and access. As such, there is a need for an integrated framework of gender analysis for food and nutrition policy. GINA is an example of such a tool.
