Chapter 19 in Handbook on Public Policy and Food Security, 2024, pp 194-203 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter describes the food-energy nexus through the lens of the food-fuel debate. It illustrates the implications of food insecurity on environmental externalities, such as deforestation. The economic consequences of household allocation of labour and chores on health status and schooling are also explored. It presents the static and dynamic framework that has been used in the literature to explore issues dealing with food insecurity, biomass conservation, and climate change.
