Chapter 27 in Handbook on Public Policy and Food Security, 2024, pp 281-288 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The global population has almost doubled in the last 40 years. This has resulted in a rapid increase in the size of cities and urban regions, which now constitute over half of the global population. This share is projected to increase. Climate change-related concerns are significantly impacting food and nutrition security in cities, influencing migration. This underlines the need for coherent policy responses based on accurate future projections on urban growth and food availability. This chapter discusses approaches for projecting future urban population and urbanisation, land use, and food security.
