Chapter 36 in Handbook on Public Policy and Food Security, 2024, pp 376-385 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Peace, justice and strong institutions play foundational roles in sustainable development, including food security and nutrition. The absence of peace, justice and strong institutions disrupts and fails to support systems necessary for food security. This chapter discusses SDG16 and how it relates to food security and nutrition. The literature reviewed observed a reverse relationship between food security and peace, justice and strong institutions. The existing statistics show that violence, injustices, corruption and non-inclusiveness are still problems, and the targets of SDG 16 may not be attained by 2030. However, there is room to enhance the role of SDG 16 in the pursuit of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development.
