Abstract:
Sustainable Development Goal 17 (SDG17) is considered the means to achieving the overall Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The goal has strengthened the implementation process by revitalising the global partnership for sustainable development. This manifests as multi-stakeholder partnerships (MSPs) that enable mobilisation and sharing of knowledge, expertise, technologies and financial resources to support the achievement of SDGs in all countries. MSPs may include any collaborative arrangement among stakeholders from two or more different spheres of society (public sector, private sector and/or civil society) to advance the targeted SDG collectively. SDG17 addresses five means of implementation themes: finance, technology, capacity building, trade and systemic issues (which covers targets related to policy coherence, MSPs and data, monitoring and accountability). Several examples of MSPs have been addressing most of the targets under these implementation themes. Further, countries have also taken diverse approaches to inform, consult, involve, collaborate and empower the public through their efforts to implement the 2030 Agenda. So far, there are notable lessons on multi-stakeholder engagement that will guide further mobilisation of stakeholders to implement the SDGs.
