Chapter 12 in Research Handbook on Migration and Employment, 2024, pp 182-198 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The relationship between the migrant workforce and the construction sector is as old as human history, albeit with a complex and changing relationship over time and across contexts. The chapter proposes tools to study, understand, and strategically act upon this complex relationship in different contexts. More specifically, after presenting the main characteristics of the relationship between the migrant workforce and the construction sector, it traces fundamental analytical dimensions along which to study it. It then focuses on relevant individual, organisational, and institutional forces shaping this relationship.
