Comparative labour migration policies

Abstract: This chapter provides a summary and critical analysis of the literature on labour migration policies in advanced economies. It appraises scholarly work on the regulation of labour migration and the different ways in which states select migrant workers. It also discusses the literature comparing labour migration policies across time and space, including studies which highlight convergence and divergence, as well as the literature on labour migration policy control gaps. The chapter finally analyses the literature on the determinants of labour migration policies, setting out the main factors and actors, which are argued to shape policy outputs.
