.
Chapter 2 in Introduction to International Business Transactions, 2020, pp 27-98 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter introduces the major international treaties that structure the regulation of international business law, most prominently international trade treaties and investment treaties. It begins by summarizing the history of trade treaties and explains why international trade has been, and remains, important to states. The doctrinal trade portion focuses on the World Trade Organization Agreements, with emphasis on their general principles and most important disciplines. It then discusses the concept of foreign investment and the reasons why foreign investment is important to states. The doctrinal investment portion focuses on bilateral investment treaties and their most common and important provisions. It concludes with a practice essay and multiple choice questions.
