Chapter 1 in Carbon Markets Around the Globe, 2021, pp 1-24 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Chapter 1 introduces Emissions Trading Schemes (ETS) as instruments that can assist countries in reaching their emission reduction targets. It describes the most common design features of ETS. The chapter also provides an introduction to the first half of the book (chapters 2 - 7), which will focus on the sustainability of ETS (in terms of their efficiency, effectiveness, and social and climate justice) and the second half of the book (chapters 8 - 12), focused on challenges posed by political economy.
