Burkindi: self-centred development

Abstract: In 1984, Upper Volta was renamed "Burkina Faso", meaning "country of men of integrity", by the National Revolutionary Committee of Thomas Sankara, who came to power on August 4, 1983, in a coup d'état. The reference to "Burkina" carries the entire ideology of this revolutionary power, which aims to promote a self-centered model of development based on integrity as a governance and management scheme on the one hand, and on the other hand, the gift of self for the country as a mechanism for mobilizing all citizens around the challenges of development. From then on, burkindlem became the reference value for all Burkinabè and the ideology that frames public action at both central and decentralized levels. It is presented as the crucible in which the particularities of the different social groups that make up Faso disappear, for the emergence of a nation-state that federates the hopes of all the people. As such, the burkindlem presents itself at the same time as a model of man to be promoted (a project of society), an instrument of promotion of the good governance and an ideological referent which mobilizes and cements the various communities which compose the country.
