Abstract: The article describes the start and quick evolution of the Fridays For Future (FFF) movement, started by the young Swedish Climate Activist Greta Thunberg. She was quickly followed by other (mostly female) young climate activists in Europe and on other continents, who organised huge schoolstrikes and bringing climate change at the top of the political agenda. The growth of this movement was very spontaneous and organic, but also quite bumpy and challenging at times. They faced numerous threads coming from outside (online harassment, gender based violence) as well as from within which is understandable when young people try to get organised. In this article two detailed case studies are made of the movement in Belgium and Germany as these were the first two countries to step on board in the FFF movement.
