Abstract: As our digital economy grows, gig work becomes increasingly significant. A number of empirical studies have highlighted the precariousness of gig workers in connection to their employment status, social protection access, and labour standards enforcement. Yet, the ways in which social dialogue can reinforce decent work and create inclusive workplaces in the growing gig economy are less explored. The purpose of our book is to investigate these issues, and shape momentum to set in place national or global frameworks for structured dialogue and collective bargaining among social partners, platforms and workers. The four case studies - Germany, Greece, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom - allow analysing the key challenges that characterize the varied European landscape of gig economy and workforce - particularly in hospitality, driving and food delivery sectors - both in terms of gig workers' capacity to organise and build collective voice and the degree and level of social partner involvement.
