Global sourcing strategy and performance
.
Chapter 4 in Concise Introduction to Global Supply Chain Management, 2024, pp 44-64 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter discusses the potential pros and cons of various forms of sourcing strategy- particularly outsourcing strategy- from both short-term and long-term perspectives and examines the performance implications of various sourcing strategies. From a performance point of view, excessive levels of insourcing or outsourcing and domestic (onshore) and offshore sourcing seem to negatively affect firms’ flexibility in dealing with changes in technological and market environments. A balanced perspective is important.
