Social work
Alexander Neupert-Doppler
Chapter 43 in Research Handbook on Critical Theory, 2026, pp 509-520 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Critical theory of society and critical social work have fundamental similarities. They are not about improving the existing society, but rather criticising its basic functioning. In a neoliberal class society, social workers have to think about their own function as well as the class position of their clients. Alexander Neupert-Doppler suggests understanding the political task of social work, with Marcuse, as a catalyst for social change.
