Chapter 12 in Ethical Value Networks in International Trade, 2022, pp 193-206 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The research in this chapter investigates the nature and evolution of ethical value networks of Kerinci cinnamon. The sector has evolved through the establishment of a farmers' organisation, adoption of organic farming and organic certification, as well as a pending Geographical Indications registration. The work shows that the factors that prompted the adoption of the ethical practices varied among farmers, buyer/exporters and intermediaries, but there was a common goal of improving the livelihood of farmers and realising more equitable commodity trade. The perceived benefits of ethical trade in the cinnamon sector of this region are investigated.
