Old wine in new bottles? Fair trade wine in Chile

Peter B.F. Williams

Chapter 9 in Ethical Value Networks in International Trade, 2022, pp 149-165 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This chapter begins by briefly discussing the rise of fair trade in Chile, before focusing on the growing use of fair trade certifications in Chilean viticulture and oenology. Particular emphasis is placed on the key opportunities and challenges for the expanding ethical wine sector, with a focus on the perspectives and experiences of small-scale grape growers and wine producers. It questions whether fair trade certifications have been applied successfully to create a more ethical wine sector in Chile.
