EAEU and Belt and Road Initiative
Marcin Kaczmarski
Chapter 11 in The Elgar Companion to the Eurasian Economic Union, 2024, pp 153-162 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The goal of this chapter is to discuss possible complementarities and contradictions between the EAEU and the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). While both the EAEU and the BRI embrace the rhetoric of cooperation between two projects, some observers see them as competitive. How successful were the attempts of Russia and China to ‘link’ the respective integration projects? Which risks and benefits are associated with their co-existence in Eurasia?
