Chapter 2 in The Elgar Companion to the Eurasian Economic Union, 2024, pp 13-26 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
What is Eurasia, and how does it relate to Eurasianism and Eurasian integration? In this chapter we suggest a basis for understanding “Eurasia” by discussing three meanings of the term: first, Eurasia as a descriptive geographic unit; second, Eurasia as a conceptual place, based on essentialist notions; and third, Eurasia as a geopolitical space subject to competition as well as possible conflict and cooperation.
