Chapter 18 in Research Handbook on Services Management, 2022, pp 263-274 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The field of Business Analytics (BA) has been growing exponentially in the private and public sectors for the past two decades. The role of BA has similarly intensified in the service industry. Many service organizations, large and small, have embraced and required BA as a means for obtaining a competitive advantage. Initially in this article, we will provide a definition of BA and discuss the issues facing a service organization in transforming itself into an analytical competitor. Additionally, we will discuss the critical components necessary to make this transformation a success. As part of this discussion, we will provide a historical perspective of BA and take a glimpse at BA's future in the service industry.
