Stakeholder governance - a framework for the present and the future
.
Chapter 9 in Beyond Shareholder Value, 2021, pp 316-378 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
The final chapter presents a framework for stakeholder governance. Federal standards are proposed for corporations operating across states/provinces in US and Canada. The proposed standards will clarify the character of business corporations as communities of interests, and their purpose as fostering the interests of all stakeholders. Additionally, the standards will provide for pay equity for workers and robust board engagement to promote responsible stakeholder governance. Expert panels are proposed for adjudicating stakeholder disputes, replacing regular courts.
