Chapter 9 in Research Handbook on Energy Management, 2025, pp 211-224 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
In this chapter, a conceptual architecture is presented for the energy management problem in the electrical distribution systems based on the Internet of Things (IoT) concept which includes three stages. In the first stage, the optimal scheduling of the smart homes’ appliances and resources is done. In the second stage, the energy management problem of the microgrids (MGs) is solved, and in the last stage, the energy management of the distribution system is solved and consequently, the power flow results in the network are obtained. For this framework, the basic mathematical formulation is proposed which can be extended in future research. From the viewpoint of the IoT concept, three main layers of the proposed IoT system are described and an appropriate prediction tool, as the core of the cloud layer, is designed to predict the demand and the market price.
