Chapter 11 in International Conflict and Security Law, 2023, pp 238-257 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Accountability for violations of international law is essential to enforce compliance with the law and to ensure protection of persons and communities during armed conflict and other situations of violence. After an overview of the history of international criminal justice and the important contributions of the Nuremberg trials, this chapter introduces the robust framework of international criminal law with detailed discussions of war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide and other atrocities.
