The macroeconomics of tourism

Abstract:
This chapter reviews tourism economics from a macroeconomic perspective, including the impact of tourism over the short run, tourism as a key factor to promote economic growth and development, tourism in a global context, methodological advance of macro-economic models, such as dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (DSGE) modeling. We combined the outcomes of different themes to provide an overall view of state of the art and the research trajectories of the knowledge on the macroeconomics of tourism. The chapter concludes with envisioning some future research ideas in tourism macroeconomics. Moreover, sharing and collaboration as a new important market in the tourism sector and its impact on economic growth and tourism activities will also be an interesting aspect of future research.
