Abstract:
The purpose of this chapter is to deal with the analysis the behavior of tourism firms and the structure of markets in which they operate. Different market structures are presented (perfect competition, monopoly, oligopoly, monopolistic competition) and are analyzed by using recent contributions from the literature in tourism economics research. The SCP paradigm and game theory are two methodological frameworks commonly used in tourism research about the understanding of firm behavior. Major trends of current research are identified and avenues for possible research are discussed as well as potential impact of the current crisis in this research area.
