Gender, feminism and populism
Luciana Cadahia
Chapter 38 in Research Handbook on Populism, 2024, pp 457-468 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter analyses the articulation between populism and gender. The first section focuses on a reconstruction of the different arguments that scholars have employed to deny the existence of a connection between gender studies and populism. In the second section, each of these arguments is refuted and the importance of articulating gender studies and populism is highlighted. The third section concentrates on proposing a feminist populism. In the last section, the ensuing feminist populism is utilized to encourage a transformation of masculinity in a direction alternative to patriarchy.
