Multidextrous M&A
Robert Demir
Chapter 110 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Mergers and Acquisitions, 2026, pp 295-298 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter introduces multidexterity as the ability to develop, nurture, and execute several distinctive M&A strategies simultaneously. It argues that firms can pursue multiple strategic objectives at once, including synergy creation, market expansion, capability acquisition, and innovation. It emphasises that multidextrous firms selectively integrate acquired businesses based on strategic fit, operational compatibility, and synergy potential, rather than applying uniform integration approaches.
