Chapter 150 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Mergers and Acquisitions, 2026, pp 405-407 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter investigates how synergies are identified, managed, and realized during M&A integration. It distinguishes between synergy types like cost, strategic, and network synergies and emphasizes the combination potential of resources. The chapter highlights the iterative process of “fitting,” where synergy value is adjusted and refined through practice and collaboration, while also recognizing the challenges and risks inherent in achieving synergy.
