Financial advisors
David Santana-Corchuelo
Chapter 65 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Mergers and Acquisitions, 2026, pp 166-168 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter examines the role of financial advisors in M&A processes. Advisors contribute expertise across deal stages, from due diligence to integration planning. Different types of advisors, including bulge-bracket banks and boutique firms, offer distinct advantages and challenges. Advisor reputation, incentives, and biases significantly impact outcomes. The chapter argues for further research into the performance and decision-making biases of advisors, particularly in pre-deal phases.
