Holding integration strategy
Duncan N. Angwin
Chapter 73 in Elgar Encyclopedia of Mergers and Acquisitions, 2026, pp 190-191 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter explores the holding integration strategy, characterized by limited autonomy and knowledge transfer. Contrary to traditional passive interpretations, the study highlights it as an ‘Intensive Care’ approach requiring rapid and directive action for financial stabilization and restructuring. Key themes include immediate cost controls, managerial changes and stringent oversight. Retention of acquired CEOs for quick turnaround measures is also examined, despite the challenges they face.
