Introduction: inequality and the environment

Abstract: This chapter serves as the introduction to the Handbook of Inequality and the Environment. This set of collected works represents our effort at organizing cutting edge research on inequality-environment intersections. We begin the chapter by highlighting the complexity of the intersection of inequality and the environment. Inequality has many dimensions (e.g., based on race, ethnicity, social class, gender, sexuality, region of the world, among many others), which all interact with the natural environment. Next, we provide the outline of the handbook, briefly explaining each chapter. In the conclusion, we note that much more work needs to be done on the inequality-environment intersection.
