Case studies in development politics: psychoanalytic inflections

.

Chapter 5 in Rethinking Development Politics, 2024, pp 82-110 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This chapter examines case studies in contemporary development politics through a psychoanalytic lens, and distinguishes the psychoanalytic approach to these case studies from the Modernization, Marxist, and/or Postdevelopment/Decolonial approaches. It elucidates the singularity and political consequences of psychoanalysis based on the following current cases: digital modernization, green modernization and electric cars, neopopulism, unconscious bias training, sustainable and inclusive trade, and radical politics in Iran.
