Regulating urban encampments
Chris Herring
Chapter 10 in Research Handbook on Homelessness, 2024, pp 139-153 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
This chapter reviews recent research on encampments and official responses to them in the USA. It examines three specific streams of research: (1) research on the legal underpinnings regulating encampments; (2) research on the policies and practices regulating encampments; and (3) research examining people’s experiences of these regulations. The chapter concludes with some reflections on new directions for future research.
