Direct service

Pietro Franzina

Chapter 20 in The European Service Regulation, 2023, pp 191-196 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: This chapter analyses Article 20 of the Recast Service Regulation on service of documents by the interested person directly through the judicial officers, officials or other competent persons of the Member State in which the service is sought. The chapter begins by outlining the origins of the rule in the 1965 Hague Service Convention and its wording in the previous versions of the EU regime. The chapter goes on to examine who may request direct service, the rules applicable to direct service and the stance taken by individual EU Member States towards direct service.
