Supporting innovation in India through a special Service Organization

Manav Subodh

Chapter 12 in Clusters of Innovation in the Age of Disruption, 2022, pp 292-311 from Edward Elgar Publishing

Abstract: Major emerging markets, such as India, are important to multinational corporations [MNCs] as markets for their products and more recently as important sources of highly productive and historically relatively low-cost human resources. MNCs today can also be understood as actors in supporting the creation of local Clusters of Innovation [COI] and linking them into their Global Networks of COI. This chapter walks the reader through my journey in the role of a Special Service [hybrid] Organization (both from within and outside the MNC), working to bridge the gaps between MNCs and other ecosystem components with the goal of helping them work more effectively together, strengthening the COIs in which they participate. The chapter contains lessons from working at the intersection of business, government and education systems that are relevant for various stakeholders across the ecosystem.
