Chapter Chapter 6 in The Intersection of Global Health and Sustainable Development, 2025, pp 78-92 from Edward Elgar Publishing
Abstract:
Global health is holistically related to all the concerning factors of nature’s sustainability and the development of humans extensively, which encompasses the contribution of various traditional cultures and practices. Their criteria integrate and reinforce where Indian Vedic wisdom has a significant contribution in this context, and importance has been given to general consciousness towards nature for the well-being of all. This chapter highlights the important components of yagya, shuddhatā, and folk practices and narratives towards global health, environment preservation, and spontaneous climate conditions by examining the role of Vedic measures and their potential perspective in the current world. Harmonizing with the objects of nature and employing purity in diet and deeds enriches the concept of good health extensively because humans and the environment complement and influence each other. It glorifies the notion of ancient approaches to developing an emotional connection with nature to maintain ecological balance for the common good. The theoretical framework of this work highlights the ancient Indian worldview related to public interest. It gives a novel introduction to its methodology based on the mutual harmony of humans and nature and their cooperation and respect towards each other. It also emphasizes the significance of ancient Indian Vedic practices in the context of global health in the modern world.
